So you know my first and only post entitled “Resolution”? Six months ago? Well… On the bright side, I’ve been following through on the reading-lots-of-books part. On the gloomy side, the writing part more or less crawled into a corner to die…

I am going to try my best to resuscitate it, but I make no promises this time.

While I play catch-up with my book thoughts, I suggest YOU give a listen to Re:sound!

ThirdCoastFestival

Re:sound is a weekly radio show that presents audio stories from all over the world organized around delightfully unusual themes (e.g. “The Symphonies Show” or “The Tiny Towns in Texas Show”). It’s produced in Chicago by the Third Coast International Audio Festival, which curates and shares hundreds of audio stories with listeners not only through Re:sound but through an audio library, podcasts, and public listening events. They also run annual competitions, one of which invites listeners to try their hand at making audio stories.

Here are two of my favorite Re:sound shows:

And the most recent story I listened to (not from Re:sound but from the audio library): Come Back to Afghanistan

This last story left a particularly strong impression on me–it’s an astonishing glimpse into Kabul and a nascent Afghan government in 2002, all via a 17 year old with his tape recorder. Just goes to show, you never know when you will find yourself in the middle of a story worth sharing. So be prepared!
